Flying Dress Photoshoot Tips (From Someone Who Actually Did It)
Santorini Greece Flying Dress Photoshoot
Book early, especially in peak season. Santorini is not the place to wing it. Photographers fill up fast, and the good time slots go first. My photographer was incredible! He helped arrange transportation and knew all of the best spots for images while avoiding crowds as much as possible. If you’d like to book, learn more here and tell him Eclectik Girl sent you!
RENT your dress, do not buy. You will likely never wear this dress again and most photographers can help you rent the dress of your dreams for a fraction of what you would pay for it. Also, who wants to weigh down their luggage with a dress?
Wear a strapless bra and biker shorts or under the dress. Once the dress starts flying, wardrobe malfunctions are almost guaranteed. You’ll fill more secure if you have undergarments you don’t mind sharing.
Wind is your friend… mostly. A little breeze makes the dress magic. Too much wind? You’ll be fighting fabric and your own sanity. Trust your photographer on timing and location.
However, take a fan. It is HOT during summer months, having a neck fan or spritzer can make all the difference between shots.
Practice your pose before the dress goes on. Once that thing is flying, you won’t have time to figure out where your arms go. Soft hands, relaxed shoulders, chin slightly down — less stiff, more goddess.
Skip heavy accessories. Big earrings, loose necklaces, or anything that can catch the fabric will either disappear mid-shoot or become a problem. Let the dress do the talking. Don’t be afraid to have sunglasses. I am an avid blinker, but it helped to take a few shots with sunglasses on to avoid squinting.
Hair up or back = cleaner shots. Loose hair sounds romantic until it’s covering your face in every frame. A low bun, slick pony, or pinned-back style photographs beautifully and keeps things drama-free.
Go bold with makeup. Natural makeup can get lost against bright skies and flowing fabric. Slightly more definition than usual will photograph better (trust me). If you’re posing in the summer, be sure to take some primer and finishing spray to hold your look.
Wear easy slip-on shoes. You’ll likely be moving between locations and changing quickly. No one cares about your shoes — they won’t be in the photos anyway. Slides work best. Also, you are posing on surfaces that are HOT, be prepared for a few burns for the perfect pictures.
Listen to the photographer’s cues. The toss, the timing, the turn — they do this all day. When they say move, move.
Don’t overthink it. Some of the best shots happen between poses. Laugh, breathe, let the moment happen.
Be patient. These photoshoots are some of the most popular things to do in Greece. During peak season, you may have to wait up to an hour in line to get your shots. Don’t fret, they will be worth it.
Hydrate and give yourself buffer time. Heat, stairs, and rushing will show on your face. Build in extra time so you’re calm, not frantic.
